Champagne Barrat-Masson
Aurélie and Loïc Barrat craft elegant, organically certified Champagnes from seven hectares in the Côte de Sézanne. With a philosophy rooted in organic farming and meticulous winemaking, Barrat-Masson has quickly established itself as one of the exciting producers to watch in Champagne.
Champagne Barrat-Masson is the passion project of Aurélie and Loïc Barrat, a husband-and-wife team cultivating around seven hectares of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in the Côte de Sézanne.
When Loïc took over his family estate in 2005, he immediately began converting the vineyards to organic farming. With Aurélie’s expertise as an oenologist, the transition was completed in 2009, and the first wines were released in 2011. Today, all their vineyards are certified organic by Ecocert, standing out as vibrant and healthy in a region still dominated by conventional farming.
Their parcels, divided between Bethon and Villenauxe-la-Grande, benefit from chalky soils with clay and flint, as well as a slightly warmer climate than the Côte des Blancs. Chardonnay dominates their plantings, but Pinot Noir adds depth and nuance to their range.
At Barrat-Masson, meticulous vineyard work and thoughtful, small-scale vinification define their approach. The wines are bottled without filtration, aged extensively on the lees, and crafted with minimal intervention. The result is Champagnes of purity, freshness, and expressive character, each reflecting both terroir and vintage.
