Castell’in Villa

Nestled in the southern part of Chianti Classico, just outside the village of Castelnuovo Berardenga, Castell’in Villa is one of Tuscany’s most authentic and respected estates.

The property has been in the hands of Princess Coralia Pignatelli della Leonessa since the late 1960s, when she and her late husband purchased it. Today, she continues to run the estate with vision, determination, and a deep respect for tradition.

The estate covers 300 hectares, including 54 hectares of organically farmed vineyards, old olive groves, and woodlands. From the start, Castell’in Villa has embraced a classical style of Chianti Classico, focusing solely on Sangiovese and rejecting fashionable trends toward small oak barrels. Instead, the wines are fermented naturally and matured in large old casks, resulting in a pure expression of grape and terroir.

Castell’in Villa produces wines of remarkable depth, balance, and longevity. Even the “regular” Chianti Classico can age gracefully for over a decade, while the Riservas are built to develop for 20 years or more. These are some of the most cellar-worthy Sangiovese wines in Tuscany, combining elegance and complexity with a vibrant, youthful energy.
